We all know laughter makes us feel good. In addition, laughter boosts our immune system and reduces stress hormones. Laughter can alleviate anger and connect us with others. It gives us physical release and when we really get into it, gives us a good core muscle work out!
I had a close friend who believed in laughter so much he started almost every day with a bit of humour. It could be reading The Onion, looking at a funny picture or watching something on TV. What intuitive wisdom he had.
As I get older I find there are less and less times that are fall down funny. That is not to say I don't laugh very much, however the times when I grab my stomach and yell "stop" or my cheeks get sore from smiling are significantly less than when I was a child. I am committed to having more laughter and lightness in my life!
When thinking about things that have made me laugh out loud I came up with a classic Gary Larson comic - Ship of Fools/Car of Idiots, W.P. Kinsella's Fencepost Chronicles, the time my brother and I asked my dad to smell the salad dressing so he would sneeze, select funny people in my life and a particular episode of “Scrubs” starring Zac Braff and Sarah Chalke.
In this episode J.D. is bothered because he didn't get a thank you from a certain patient. Determined to get his deserved appreciation he and Turk (Donald Faison) go over to the patient’s house and discover a "Beware of Birds" sign and things get silly from there.
Luckily I found a clip of the funniest part on Youtube. Obviously there are a few others that find this episode as hysterical as I do. Try a little humour therapy and watch with amusement.
